week 2: video – dB6 Festival

May 26th, 2009

The second week of the festival was noticeably quieter in noise than the sound week. The Creative Filmmaking workshop was taken by Ben Jones and participants were offered a selection of music tracks to create visuals too, whilst learning techniques of filmmaking and editing.

The five participants spent three days creating the videos and had a lot of fun doing so. The results were screened at an opening at Brown & Bri, where the work was screened alongside archive video work produced in the Digital Arts Studios over the past six years.

Thanks to Brown & Bri for hosting the exhibition!

The Festival came to a end with Alfred Darlington a.k.a. Daedelus (Ninja Tune, LA) doing a talk in the gallery, next door in Queen Street Studios. It was a chance for people to get a personal insight into Daedelus, the Menome, how it works and having a chance to personally have a go! All this before seeing it properly in action at his gig that night in the Black Box as part of the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival. It was a great night with Richard and Lucy from the digital studios providing live visuals.

Thanks to the guys at Rudimentary for asking us to get involved!

Next stop: ISEA 2009, then Oscillations Festival.
