Alessia Cargnelli (b. 1990 in Triest, IT) is an artist working with still and moving images.
In my practice there is a bold interest on the effects of time and its traces in our present environment and experience. My works are developed from an observation practice that lead to an intimate familiarity with a specific place. This process emerges in the expansion and retraction of an invisible timeline that creates potential alternative narratives through photography and video languages.
Graduating in 2012 with a BFA in Visual Arts from IUAV University of Venice, Alessia continued her studies at Ca’Foscari University, obtaining a MA in Contemporary Art History in 2015. Her work has been exhibited both in Italy and abroad. Recent exhibitions included Le lait du miroir, Space Le6b Saint Denis, Paris, France, Invisible Cities, Fès, Morocco, Il destino delle cose, Galleria La Giarina, Verona, Italy. In 2012 she was awarded the 96th Young Artists Collective fellowship by Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation.
In 2015 Cargnelli was one of the winner of Rafting for the Third Paradise, a competition for a site-specific projects in Porto Vecchio of Triest, Italy.
She has recently moved in Belfast (UK), in order to work as co-director of the artist-led space Catalyst Arts.
