Experimental Short Film: Dessert for Three
A love triangle with a magical culinary element set in a seaside cafe.
The film adopts an innovative, playful approach to traditional gender roles whilst exploring the theories of Laura Mulvey’s landmark essay, Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema, “In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split between active / male and passive / female. The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly.” The cinematography explores the transformative power of the active, rebellious female gaze while the male figures embody female fantasies.
