Miguel Martin (b. 1985 Belfast, UK) studied BA Fine and Applied Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast (2005-2008)
Through traditional still-life drawing and multi-media installation, Martin explores both formal and autobiographical themes, relating often to the uncanniness of objects, narratives structures, materiality and memory. Martin is interested in exploring the relationship between the psychology of fear and paranoia, often evoking a sense of unease by both revealing and concealing the true intent of each piece. Martin's work is informed by an interest in the architecture and aura of domestic space and how the human body can activate familiar objects such as mirrors, curtains and doors to become foreboding, paradoxical thresholds.
He lives in Belfast and works from his studio at Platform Arts.
