Early in 2021 the Digital Arts Studios commissioned five new moving image works to be shown online. The brief was simple; create a five minute work in response to the pandemic. We invited five selected artists to respond to their experiences of living and working during a global pandemic and its resulting impacts on their lives. We were interested in what the artists did during lockdown; if they made more or less work, if their work changed in subject or medium and how they made work. We welcomed work in any style, whether documentary, narrative or experimental.
The five selected artists are:
Fiona Ní Mhaoilir
Each artist has taken a very different approach in creating their work. The online exhibition can be viewed here www.dasfiveforfive.com. The five new works will also be physically installed in an exhibition at the Flax Arts Studios Project Space in North Street, Belfast. The Five for Five exhibition will open on Thursday the 14th of October and will run until the 30th of October 2021.
This project is funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Stability & Renewal Programme for Organisations.
