In the early hours of the morning on Monday the 3rd of October, a fire was started at Cathedral Buildings in Donegall Street, Belfast. Thankfully, no one was in the building at the time and no one was injured. The fire ravaged the grade B1 listed building, leaving it in a dangerous state with floors and stairwells partially collapsing. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service pumped 150,000 litres of water into the building to extinguish the fire and by late afternoon it was finally out. Sadly, the building will need a lot of work to come back into use but we hope it can be retained for the sake of Belfast's heritage.
DAS must move on and we are seeking new premises as soon as possible so that we can continue to deliver our planned programme. We will deliver upcoming workshops and planned exhibitions with the support of our colleagues and partners in the arts sector. We are very thankful for the support they have shown us. We are heartened also by the number of individual artists who have personally donated money to our fund. Thanks to each and every one of you.
We will provide updates as soon as we have a new home and in the meantime, keep an eye on our website and social media channels for information on events and news.
