OPEN CALL SELECTED ARTIST
Following our recent Open Call we are delighted to announce that Reuben Brown will have a solo exhibition at DAS in March ‘24.
Reuben Brown (he/him) is a sculptor and 3D-CGI artist currently based in Belfast, N.Ireland, specialising in 3D-CGI (computer-generated) filmography, interactive installation and performance. He is a member and studio-holder at QSS Artist Studios and Gallery in East Belfast, after graduating from Belfast School of Art in June 2022. Interested in the generation of ephemeral club-spaces, club-culture and the representation of (primarily queer) digital artists in Belfast, Reuben is the founder and director of emerging Belfast-based scenography collective “club [construction]” which utilises the visual arts as ‘tools’ of activation. He has exhibited extensively locally, nationally and internationally.
“CLOAKROOM at club [construction]!” is an interactive installation, participatory performance and ephemeral encounter with space, taking place at DAS/Digital Arts Studios in March 2024. Utilising unorthodox new-media materials, “CLOAKROOM…” combines experimental sound, immersive lighting, interactive installation, 3D-CGI filmography, interview, participatory performance, and sculpture with a collection of around twenty custom wearable digitally-knit football scarves. These scarves carry vibrant text-based slogans, sculptural applications and digitally-interactive imagery - encouraging the audiences to try-on, swap and share scarves as they navigate both the physical exhibition space, and the ephemeral online-spaces they gain access to through the scarves.
“I am so grateful and excited to be awarded the opportunity to develop a new body of work for “CLOAKROOM at club [construction]!” over the next couple of months with assistance and support from DAS/Digital Arts Studios.”
